SPRATTY SAYS 9th April 2008

Good rain at the moment in Grafton, as opposed to the more malicious and destructive types we have seen a few months ago. Yes there is a difference or so I've been told by a few bush weather experts. Who cares anyway, anything that puts off global warming and encourages global greening must be good.

On the home front, despite my best efforts, the Ponderosa is actually looking pretty good, Mrs Spratty and now Dot my mother-in-law are both doing a terrific job. My focus is on kitchen appliances, the fridge in particular, and casual furniture, with special attention paid to its orientation to the television.

One concern though was a recent announcement by Mrs Spratty that she is no longer into 'cheap' chocolate. Only the quality stuff satisfies, well this certainly ups the anti in the grovelling stakes, I need to be careful that the microscope of discernment doesn't swivel around to other aspects of her world, husbands in particular, otherwise Ill be in big froth and bubble.

The school holidays must have started as there are increasingly large numbers of vaguely familiar kids rotating at warp speed in and outo f the Ponderosa. I now only accept instructions one at a time.

The holidays have also provided more action for the Big One's famous futon, apart from tired and emotional parents, my daughter's futon has found itself hosting disoriented cousins beached between holiday drop off and pick up timetables.

On the sporting front the big G's infusion of enthusiasm into the Grafton Tigers Aussie Rules team hit a snag finding themselves on the receiving end of an improbable score in their first game. A cricket score to a soccer score was the result, numbers are not important here. Rubbing insult to injury Graham's inexplicably unsponsored groin has reared it's ugly head again. The big fella is in a fair bit of discomfort, seemingly unable to train let alone find anyone to provide solace, treat or even tweak his on going problem. Mighty River is more than happy to field any sponsorship enquiries, plenty of exposure here folks.

Also on the sporting front the Grafton Redmen are starting to take shape. After a more  laid back early pre-season the boys are looking pretty good. I should know I'm getting pretty good at standing around during the tougher sections of training sessions and making sage comments. The good news is that the all conquering U19 side from last year is at least as good, and our lower grades will be far more competitive. My only major concern is the fixation of new uber-coach Mat Pye on three in a bed. Think Ill just stick to the water.

On the workfront, the runout Falcon's are almost gone. Rob Connell still has a few trinkets lying about, but the new car looks sensational and will be here at the end of April. Due to the record levels of sales some of the trade-ins are worth checking out there are some absolute crackers.

Finally please be careful on the wet roads during the holidays,

Happy motoring
