SPRATTY SAYS 11th August 2007
Kangaroos have taken charge of the backyard as my horticultural efforts remain in recess. Talking about things that bounce around, the Big One is making additional brief appearances at the Ponderosa these days, in transit to her new Shangri-La in Grafton. CC girl made it through another parent teacher encounter relatively unscathed, and in recent days has even produced documentary evidence that she in fact even attends some kind of educational institution, by adding what appears to be school books to the inventory of music and over 300 close personal friends normally cluttering her world.
A reasonably high dosage of footy last weekend saw the Redmen go down in second grade in the worst refereeing display witnessed outside of France. Forward passes, knock ons, off sides, you name it, unless committed by Grafton didn’t happen. Until midway through the second half when the boys had clearly runout of gas the game opened up. The Redmen tried hard but were never allowed to generate momentum.
First grade was a totally different story. No problems whatsoever with the ref. The Redmen again started slowly, finding themselves down 14 nil after 10 minutes. Outscoring Ballina for the rest of the game the Redmen battled their way back to a 19 all draw in an absolute nail biter. Despite not winning, I guess we remain undefeated for the season, setting the stage for an exciting finals campaign.
Today’s fixture at Rugby Park should be a beauty with Grafton hosting the Yamba Buccaneers, in what is traditionally a tightly contested local derby. Although out of contention in first grade there will be plenty of bragging rights on the line, with the second grade sides playing for a spot in the semis. The action starts at 1.30 so be early for a good spot.
On the work front Paul Winwill has been busy pulling rabbits out of his hat with some sensational stock arriving at Spring Street. There are almost 50 different caravans, pop-tops, motorhomes and campers, ranging from $2990 to over $80,000 there is stacks to look at on your way to the footy. Trish McCaughey is on hand this weekend to help you through the maze of options.
The other (some would say junior) half of Team McCaughey, is on deck 7 days a week in Fitzroy Street dispensing advice on a wide range of topics including motoring.
Finally the Mighty River Service Centre is beginning to resemble a medical centre with all the diagnostic equipment on hand to analysis a cars every burp. This part of the world is pretty tough on cars, call into Victoria Street and allow us to ensure to you get the best value out of your motoring experience by keeping your car in tip top condition at a very reasonable price.
Happy motoring,
