SPRATTY SAYS 12-08-2006

It’s been a little breezy this week in the Valley, with the breeze aiding and abetting the mercury from dropping too far, although the SS Linda Gaye I, is well and truly in dry dock right now, and I must confess to a growing need of a good fish.

On the home front CC girl having discovered bicycles, walking and the outdoors generally has also discovered sport. She won her first ever trophy last week at a netball tournament, suddenly her world is turning a touch athletic, school sport is no longer an afterthought and Saturday netball also has new meaning in our world. In fact having some understanding of the rules of netball my respect for the sport and it’s participants has grown enormously.

The big news this week however, is that I got busted by Mrs Spratty last weekend, being more than the waterboy for the Redmen. The giveaway was the muddy shorts and boots, as well as my inability to correctly answer why a waterboy would be in need of a mouthguard. She was actually pretty good about it under the circumstances, I think realising that if I was really clever I wouldn’t even be considering playing and that she probably should be more worried about my team mates and the good standing of the club.

Once they hooked me off the field, Third grade actually went pretty well in Lismore last Saturday, holding the students scoreless in the second half. In cold windy and miserably wet conditions I had my best day of the season pretty much. They let me loose with a line’s mans flag in second grade and a vague notion of the rules, as well as the opportunity to get right into the action in first grade with the water. The day was capped by being hosted by a lovely family in Grafton to a great meal and you guessed it more footy on a monster TV. Yes, my friends, life in the Clarence Valley is very good indeed!

On the work front while my export report has been sidelined by other news in recent weeks, the boys at Mighty River have been, dare I say it mighty busy. As I write this a couple of cars are loading on their way to Sydney, we have also found customers in recent weeks in Wollongong, Inverell, Taree and the Gold Coast as well plenty of starters around the Northern Rivers. It’s not surprising with the variety and value on offer right now.

Another feature of business lately is the number of cars we are buying in for people. Too busy to go to the auctions, but knowing what they want and often having done business with us previously a growing number of folks are leaving it to us to source their new/used conveyance from the variety of outlets we have access to.

Thanks again for your support,

Happy motoring,

Spratty
