SPRATTY SAYS 18th August 2007

Spring is certainly in the air this week with the mercury heading north to a much nicer place. A little moisture during the week didn’t go astray either; it’s been a pretty dry winter.

Not a lot to report from the Ponderosa; CC girl was in charge last weekend while Mrs Spratty and I attended a trade do on the Gold Coast, actually she wasn’t as  we have an Old Man Roo in the backyard who seems to have moved in with us and has taken us under his rather large wing. We do need to move him on, as he’s a bad example to CC girl, laying about all day doing as he pleases, frightened of no one, reckon he smokes and drinks too. And any way I don’t like to share role models.

Suddenly it’s the business end of the footy season. While some local crews are winding down, preparing for Mad Monday, it’s action stations for the Redmen, with 3 sides appearing in semi-finals over the next fortnight. Undefeated U19’s and First Grade play Saturday week, with Second grade taking on Casino in Tweed heads today after an exciting win over a highly regarded Yamba side last Saturday.

The Redmen can also take a bow for taking out a number of awards at the regional presentation day last Sunday in Bangalow. We have in Grafton, among other things, the regions best senior representative player, the runner up best and fairest player and the highest point scoring U19 player, however most importantly in recognition for the mountain of work that goes on off the field, the Redmen took out the prestigious Club Championship for the first time in many years. Congratulations to all concerned..

The Second Grade boys have cemented their late season form by training well this week under the expert eye of super coach Mal Mckenna (...hoping he reads this before the jumpers get handed out!), numbers bolstered by a few Third Graders…perhaps.

On the workfront we have seen plenty of horse trading this week, with lots of cars and caravans changing hands. Paul Winmill has been on a buying frenzy, he might have freaked out the Bank Manager, but boy o boy, he’s filled Spring Street with plenty of toys, prices starting from $3000 to $80,000 and stacks in between.

Also on the workfront Graham, Laila or Mark can arrange a service for most cars for $129, including a written safety report. Be quick though as places are limited.

Finally don’t forget to drop in and see Chris over the weekend. You have to feel for a bloke who is getting smashed on the scoreboard at work by a novice salesperson who is also his wife. Be sure to let him know!

Happy motoring,

Spratty
