SPRATTY SAYS 15th February 2008
Finally a few rays of sunshine. The kids are back at school and the weather has eased up. Not a drop eh? Those Clarence prawns must be the luckiest temporary crustaceans on the menu. Sorry to impose flood mitigation politics upon you, but my driveway is now in my backyard and I'm pretty sure I saw a bloke giving swimming lessons in a park in South Grafton during the week.
The tempo changes when our youthful academic acolytes are back in scholastic harness. Overt social mania becomes abbreviated, the domestic IT hub gets a break to cool down during the day and a plethora of new surnames are introduced, being a mix of peers and the poor buggers charged with trying to educate our young minds.
On the home front, my recent crazed lawn etchings have blurred as all recent rain has got the green monster really fired up to the extent that even the mower is getting nervous. On a positive note the Ponderosa Passionfruit production facility is back in full production, other than a small blight, it looks like a bumper year, my devious strategy of natural irrigation and total lack of effort is paying substantial dividends.
After a couple of pretty good excuses, my winter sports program got underway in the past week or so. Training this time of the year is never easy, however masquerading as a member of the coaching staff at critical times allows me to complete sessions relatively intact. The early roll up at the
Redmen has been pretty good considering the heat and the gruelling program (.. well for me anyway), with many of last year’s all conquering U19 squad looking more than ready to move into the senior ranks.
Don't forget Junior Redmen sign on days, 15 and 22 February, at Rugby Park where for $10 budding Wallabies up to 12 years can try rugby for 4 weeks AND get a whole bunch of freebies in the TRY RUGBY program. How good is that!
Also on sport, after much deliberation and protracted negotiations, erstwhile Magpie for life Tom Freebody has signed with the Grafton Ghosts, much to the chagrin of our very own Chris 'the Rhino' Osborne and a major coup for the lover of the Bunning’s sausage sandwich. We feel confident that he will add plenty to their reserve grade outfit.
On the workfront, (yep we squeeze a little of that in too!), a new Ford Focus is winging its way to a new home in downtown Ballarat. During the week families from Cranbourne (Vic),Dorrigo, Binguy(?), the Gold Coast and the Hunter Valley all found cars and caravans right here at Mighty River. The ‘07
Caravan and camper clearance sale has been a huge success with plenty of heavily marked down items still on offer. There are plenty of great new and used car deals available also, with Falcon utes in particular representing excellent buying at the moment.
Finally, she doesn't always get a mention but our Business manager Fiona Harris has blossomed into a terrific operator, offering terrific advice and deals on all aspects of Finance and Insurance. Testament to her dedication is the rising tide of referrals heading her way. If you are interested in
Leasing, car finance or just curious call in for a friendly chat, she seems to be able to make the most complex, very comprehensible even for me.
Happy Motoring
