SPRATTY SAYS 7th July 2007

Boy what a busy week! It started with the bird being dispatched to the Big One’s place for a little holiday. Subsequent enquiries are leading Mrs Spratty to the view that the cockatiel player comfort level is below par and the bird is being forced to reside in sub standard conditions.. a la a boot camp. I can see a recovery mission coming up, to restore the bird to her rightful place at Club Med for birds.

An eventful trip to Brisvegas followed. It started badly, when I miscued to the travel time to Tweed Heads for the Rugby, naturally Mrs Spratty was on hand to take the blame. In the morning I had a key malfunction, and in the process I met a lovely family enjoying the exact same room as ours but 4 floors down. Once I was sure I could not blame Mrs Spratty, I checked at reception as to exactly which room my key would work in and you know what? They were right. It worked and Mrs Spratty was none the wiser!

Finally we made it to Brisbane International Airport. While we were waiting for the planeload of kids to arrive, I checked the departure board and couldn’t help noticing that 80% of International Flights from Brisbane go to New Zealand…mmm. Sydney is the next most popular International Destination. This time of the year, nowhere is further from Brisbane, so I’m OK with that… but the one that got me was Norfolk Island.. Until I realised, it is nominally part of NSW and everything fell into place.

The Rugby was great. I missed Second Grade’s win but the First Grade game was a cracker. Tweed were a totally different side to the one that went through the motions in Grafton a few months ago. After rocking us with an early converted try against the run of play and a penalty goal to lead us 10 nil after 20 minutes, the Grafton boys adjusted to the unfamiliar style of play from an invigorated Tweed outfit to be 10 all at half time. Although Tweed came at us strongly in the second half, three tries to one was a fair indication of the game. I thought Jonnno Speechley played his best game of the season, well supported in a technically correct and very disciplined forward display, with the backs again looking dangerous in attack and miserly in defence. It’s another win but the competition is certainly nipping at our heels.

Today the action starts at 11:30, with all four grades on display against the somewhat enigmatic Lismore City crew. It promises to be great day of Rugby, cheap at twice the price. If I’m good I might even get a guernsey.

On the workfront, the new Caravans have started to arrive (finally) and are worth a look. Team Mcaughy continues to confound the critics with their increasingly popular Sunday sessions and there are stacks of fresh cars to check out either on the net at www.mightyriver.com.au or in the flesh.

Finally Ford have bitten the bullet and rolled back prices on most new models. Territor , Ranger, XR6 and in particular, runout Focus pricing is super keen. Rob Connell also has a couple of runout Courier 4x4’s up his sleeve at amazing pricies.

Be early for the best buys,

Happy motoring,

Spratty
