SPRATTY SAYS 14th July 2007
You’ve gotta love race week! Suddenly we all become experts in all matters quinine. I’ve been getting tips from events as far afield as far North Queensland, I know.. it’s the thought that counts. It’s hard to keep track, whether its Calcuttas, quinellas, maidens or more importantly my shout. The Grafton Jockey Club do a fantastic job each year enhancing the reputation of both this very important event as well as our region, at the same time ensuring those of us betting through our beer goggles, filled to the brim with misplaced confidence, and all in our best togs, are having the time of our lives. Kind of like Christmas for big kids.
School holidays are upon us again reminding us what a critical role teacher’s play. You don’t realise how many kids there are around the place, how boisterous they are and how much they belong back at school. Only kidding, it’s nice seeing the kids around town, but there are a fair few of them. I have decided to be a lot more respectful to school teachers from now on and maybe stem the flow of shore leave at Mighty River. When do they go back again?
Another feast of footy unfolded last Saturday delighting growing numbers of spectators. Unfortunately u19’s didn’t get off the blocks; the visitors forfeiting at late notice. I’m pretty sure though everyone who was keen got a run at some stage. Super Coach Chris Jackson got the ball rolling presiding over a super competitive and highly entertaining game in third grade, despite frustrations caused by a certain would be second rower. The day culminated in another solid win to an extremely consistent and disciplined First grade outfit that seems to be improving.
Determined not to let race week undermine preparations for a tough road trip, coach Powell grew horns during the week with a two for one deal on Tuesday night. Three different locations for the Redmen today, with simultaneous appearances at Wollongbar, Mullumbimby and Lennox Head; it doesn’t get any tougher than that.
On the workfront, some of the New caravans have arrived and they look sensational, pretty much a five star hotel on wheels. Paul Winmill has been foraging around for some terrific used ones too. Call into the Spring Street Megaplex and say hello to Adam Dejong, Pauls new sidekick in the caravan business. By the way Paul sold a caravan to some folks from South Australia during the week, further confirming my view of the enormous export potential Paul is sitting on.
Finally there are lots of keenly priced fresh faces in Fitzroy Street ready for an in depth interview. Lots of new cars sales have produced plenty of great trades. Lots of price roll backs from Ford and great deals from Hyundai have given the crew in Fitzroy Street plenty to talk about.
Happy motoring,
