SPRATTY SAYS 02-06-2007
Winter is here, or is it? It doesn't seem that cold, with and abundance of shorts and t-shirts still out and about.
On the home front the bird is still firmly entrenched at the top of the food chain. The big bird areas of concern are whether the fridge noise is too loud near the cage, are the outside (real) birds too scary, is it warm enough and so on. I really thought when the kids became relatively self-sufficient it would be back to me. Apparently I have been usurped by 5 ounces of fluff. If Big Brother is listening I nominate the bird for eviction for 10 points for undermining my time in the house and no I won’t give examples!
The Rugby last Saturday at Yamba was excellent. The Bucc’s were way too good for the Redmen in second grade, however the first grade match was a cracker. As usual Yamba lifted and lifted again in the second half. After a slashing try by Ken Mercy midway through the first half, the score line remained unchanged for the rest of the game. Far from being dour, it was an enthralling contest, the Redmen defence in the end withstanding sustained attack. On that effort Yamba will win far more than they will lose and Grafton look like continuing to offer very little to opponents in the way of points.
Didn't make it to training this week, I was busy doing a little sponsor development work, or as Mrs Spratty describes it, a feed and a few beers at the Grafton Hotel with some visiting boofhead car blokes. It’s been a pretty big week on that front, filling in for Mr King at the annual Police Iron man day on Thursday, fund raiser for the rescue helicopter service, culminating in the big one today at Rugby Park. Four games against Grafton’s nemesis Ballina. The last team to beat the rampaging Redmen midway through last year are always strong across the grades and are showing pretty good form, in first grade in particular. With the lower grades finding some form and u19's on song, it promises to be a great day out.
On the work front, Chris McCaughy continues his guest appearances on Sundays by public demand. Tom Freebody and Rob Connell are putting the finishing touches on a multiple delivery regime from the Gold Coast to Ulladulla, there has been a little head scratching but its all come together we hope.
Finally you may have been wondering why I have started to number the column, well next week is our 100th column testament to the value of free speech in general and the intellectual tolerance of valley dwellers in particular. To mark the occasion the Daily Examiner, the Mighty River crew, Mrs Spratty and a few others have conspired to put something special together. Don't miss it.
Happy Motoring,
Spratty
