SPRATTY SAYS 23-06-2007
An icy blast during the week was a reminder that winter has well and truly settled in. The cockatiel now gets tucked in after a big night on the computer, the mouse pad and keyboard in particular, with an extra blanket. In fact the bird is so good on the computer I'm thinking of giving her a start at Mighty River. Yes indeed, Mrs Spratty really has her work cut out chasing two of us to be put down at bedtime.
On the home front, the wide variety of local fauna has been augmented by several head of cattle over the back fence in recent months. CC girl has been watching them fairly closely, but apparently not close enough to notice they changed from boys to girls in the last week or so. She thought I was kidding, but after a little biology lesson all was revealed...boys are black and girls are brown. See simple!!
On the Rugby front the Redmen simply blew the second placed Casino outfit off Rugby Park last Saturday. Sure there were a couple of faces missing from last years grand final line up, but that was the case on both sides. Casino faced a Redman side with a newfound sweet tooth for scoring points and in
red hot form. The traditionally tough and unforgiving Redmen forward pack is now complemented by a talented and willing backline prepared to back themselves in attack and impenetrable in defence. Trent Dickson, in particular provided the icing on the cake by not only lifting his general game to a superior level in recent weeks at fullback, but also by slotting goal kicks from the sideline. Even the temporarily side-lined Mr Powell struggled to find fault with the 18th consecutive win, I thought I saw our scrum moved a few inches at one stage or first points conceded in a month perhaps?
I got another opportunity to shine on the hockey field last Sunday, while the mind was willing the old bod struggled with the ball and stick concept, it was a tad better though actually aware of the shots I was missing. Anyhow, I seemed to fill a space and the guys were very good to be with, mainly because apparently... We won.
On the workfront the end of financial year has knocked activity levels up a few notches. We are sweating on some new Caravans to augment our dwindling stock, we ordered our first Motor Homes from Discoverer during the week, watch out for those as they look sensational.
o assist with the increased levels of activity, Trish Mcaughy and Adam deJong have come on board to help out, and have settled in nicely. Call into either Spring Street or the Fitzroy Street Autodome and see that we have plenty to talk about. I still wonder what Chris Mcaughy gets up to on Sundays in Fitzroy Street, but the feedback is terrific. Better still see us on the net at www.mightyriver.com.au.
Finally our thoughts are with folks down South who copped another dose from mother nature. It may well be us next time.
Happy and careful motoring,
Spratty
