SPRATTY SAYS 30-06-2007
It is EOFY (always wanted to write that), an event that always comes with a sense of misplaced anticipation. It's New Years eve and yet not, an event but not a holiday. It's probably appropriate that it is most important tothe world of accounting, because much like their resolutions to problems...EOFY is sensible without making anyone particularly excited.
Whilst GST has probably taken the edge off EOFY commercially, as we effectively now have four per year, it does remain a line in the sand for performance review and taxation purposes, but that's pretty much it. Most annual budgets are still done on a financial year basis, however in my experience like most of us, organisations deploy the bulk of new funding upon receipt, because it was really needed last year.
On the home front Mrs Spratty has started to pack for the bird, who is having a little holiday at the Big One's place.. I hope she likes it there! We have been Darby and Joan this week, as apart from a hit and run kitchen raid from the Big One early in the week, Mrs Spratty and I have had the Ponderosa
to ourselves ( and the bird). While we miss the kids, I could get used to it.
On the football front I have a bone to pick with that august institution Southern Cross University. Last week I (and a number of my Redmen colleagues) were all set to bus it to Lismore. I was personally organised, Mrs Spratty had wiped me for the day and I was all set to pack into a jersey or two and have a big big big day out. They forfeited at the last minute. I would have been happy enough to play three kids and a dog, just to get on the bus. Even our fearless leader Physio Phil would have been flexible on
the opposition make up I'm sure. Second Grade are playing pretty good rugby at the moment, but for the home team to forfeit third grade is just not on!
After the disruption of the forfeit, First grade ground out a dour win number 19, in unusually difficult conditions. Hasn't been a lot of wet weather footy for a while and Coach Powell certainly drilled the boys at training during the week on how to modify the game plan to accommodate this new challenge.
On the work front our caravanning odyssey continues. We have tracked down a manufacturer in Port Macquarie, Cruiser caravans who makes self sustaining vans, all you need to add is food and water, they generate their own solar power and don't cost an arm and a leg, keep an eye out for those. We also
have some Discoverer Motor Homes on the way, wait until you see these, they are sensational.
Also on the work front, it was becoming pretty obvious that Chris McCaughy was leaning pretty heavily performance wise on his wife Trish. In the end we had no choice but to get her on board full time, to keep Chris balanced if nothing else. We seem to have created Team McCaughy.
Finally Ford have upped the anti on their small cars, Focus, Fiesta and all new Mondeo. With new models and revised pricing they are well worth a look. So check in with Rob Connell, Tom Freebody and Team McCaughy.
Happy motoring,
Spratty
