SPRATTY SAYS 10-03-2007

The highlight of last week was Mrs Spratty and I heading to Brisbane for a few days for an injection of the Ford truth serum and a little shopping. Still unused to being a Queensland dealer I can’t help asking a few annoyingly parochial questions at each outing; they still invite me, so there you go.

On the football front, the Redmen get the opportunity to translate impressive paddock form to a trial with Inverell at Rugby Park Grafton 17 March. Inverell won their regional competition last year and are rated a very good side. We get to see what our u19 bad boys can produce under the control of the whistle; we also get to see if premiership winning form lasts. The action starts at 1.30, be early for a good spot.

Also on football, the Gee, our Victorian imported player is having transfer clearance issues. Initial concerns based around suspension issues or retention wishes from his club in Victoria proved unfounded, as the lethargy came from his new club in Grafton. If he can’t get a start with the Tigers, I have assured him that everybody gets a go at the Redmen, with no transfer issues. In a World Cup year he could do a lot worse than Rugby.

There is one other sporting issue that needs to be resolved. When it comes to Golf, my enthusiasm doesn’t necessarily match my knowledge of etiquette. I also didn’t realise that championships were a big deal. I mean everybody looked really relaxed. Last Sunday as I often do, I ripped around the golf course even impressing myself occasionally, and in the process cut through a number of groups playing championship Golf. One bloke said to me in a typically dry Graftonian manner... Mate, this is pretty heavy stuff. I thought he was kidding. I do apologise for the interruption to those concerned and sincerely hope my improprieties didn’t add unnecessarily to their handicaps.

On the car front, one of my brothers called through during the week. He had recently declined my offer to help buy a prestige car, thought he had all answers and helped himself out of a little joint in Melbourne I’ve never heard of...the puddle of oils he left on the driveway when he left was testament as to who actually helped who.

Talking about long distance sales activity, Rob Connell sent a few more new Fords to Sydney this week, we also found customers in Wagga and Mt Morgan near Rockhampton as well as the usual suspects in Coffs, Coraki, Casino and Inverell.

Finally Chris McCoy has joined the sales crew at Mighty River. I actually knew Chris in Sydney a year or two ago, but never knew he hailed from the Clarence. Back living at Wooli after stints in the big smoke I guess you could describe him as an oldie but a goodie. Drop in and check up on him and say gidday.

Happy motoring,

Spratty
