SPRATTY SAYS 22nd March 2008
A chat with Spratt
Summer weather has certainly eased in recent weeks with little to trouble the mercury. So much for global warming in our part of the globe.
On the homefront it seems I have finally achieved my goal to become a
nuisance to my kids. A rare overnight stay at the Big One's place recently
after a very strenuous golf related mission in Coffs, caused an unintended
extended tired and emotional stay on her futon. During my stay on her futon,
conveniently located adjacent to her kitchen table, I was introduced to her
new flatmate ..as her preferred prone parent.
I just know I impressed the young lady from the horizontal, with the
forthright manner in which I gathered my broken and lost belongings from
scattered locations around the district from the safety and comfort of my
futon base. Just a tip to golfers contemplating an extended away game, take
note of which car your clubs and other possessions spend the night in, it
helps if you narrow it down to just the one.
Finally the big moment arrived when I was able to depart, leaving them
shaking their heads and with roughly 75% of their weekend relatively intact.
The Easter break has given me the opportunity to naval gaze the topic of
interest rates. I am by no means an international economist but what exactly
does the spectre of Zero interest rates in the US mean? Lack of interest or
just Commercial ambivalence? Does that mean that an interest only loan on a
house is effectively a free house? Why then are our rates going through the
roof when elsewhere they are going the other way. Although the way I'm going
I should have the answer by next Easter.
On the work front, it continues to amaze me how responsive the car Market is
to good offer. The Falcon runout is a case in point, by applying a few
bonuses on Falcon Utes in particular Ford have created a terrific value
proposition that has hit the spot with local buyers. There are a few left
but they are disappearing fast.
Hyundai are also on a winner with new products, the commercial van and wagon
causing quite a stir but the i30 is a revelation. Worldwide demand is
pushing availability out particularly for the diesel variants, however new
car maestro Rob Connell has a few tucked away, but you'll need to be quick.
Also on the work front the exports continue with caravans and motor homes in
particular disappearing to all points of the compass. Huge interest in the
recent RV show on Gold Coast for our Discoverer range in particular has us
scurrying in all directions filling orders from as far a field as Tasmania.
Don't forget our NRMA accredited workshop and factory trained technicians
are able to service all makes and models from a very affordable $100.
Finally parts and accessories including Caravan and RV gear is now available
from Fitzroy street..on Saturday mornings
Happy motoring
