SPRATTY SAYS 05-05-2007
This week’s cooler weather was a reminder that we are well and truly into the footy season.
Apparently there are seasonally specific tasks in the Garden this time of the year. Mrs Spratty will work it out. They all look like they are doing OK to me. Through an absolute fluke we have some passionfruit vines going absolutely gangbusters at the Ponderosa, I suspect they are a weed in some quarters. To my visitors from down south, however, they are the result of a set of highly technical horticultural procedures, which they are keen to learn. The two key procedures are intermittent aquatic immersement (watering) and size and colour specific off vine treatment (picking the ripe ones).
The big news in the Valley this week is the two shows. Firstly at Maclean, congratulations to the organisers for staging an event which was a huge success, also Grafton this weekend. Country shows are still a novelty to me, they are great. I could go to one every weekend, if Mrs Spratty would let me. We have our very own Mighty River stand as we did last year, we have organised some show cars, the Bundy Rum race truck along with Bundy Rum Girls and a few other surprises. Mrs Spratty and I will be on hand to dispense gardening tips, marriage counselling, cockatiel counselling and anything else you would like to discuss…even cars. Last year was a heap of serious fun, this year looks even better, makes sure you get along.
Football wise the Redmen were great in Lismore last weekend. U19’s getting up in a nail biter and Seconds went down fighting in a tight tussle. The First Grade game was a display of top quality Rugby from both sides. Leading from the front, Gary Powell seemed to have a superior game plan, that offered the opposition few opportunities. Although few points were on offer, Grafton never seriously looked threatened. Still undefeated, the premiers appear intent on defending their title.
I will have to excuse myself from the show for a few hours, to get to Rugby Park this afternoon. No fewer than 4 games against a large contingent of students from Southern Cross University in Lismore. The action starts with a double, U19’s and third grade both kick off at 1230. The students, always entertaining, should also be pretty competitive in all grades. See you there!
On the workfront we had another busy month in April. To everyone in the Valley who did business with us, we are extremely grateful. Our ‘exports’ continue to grow, with new customers in Tamworth, Hay, St Clair in Sydney, Cootamundra and Port Macquarie.
Finally, in a first for Grafton, back in Grafton after highly successful stints on the Gold Coast and Sydney, Chris McCaughy will be available in Fitzroy Street all weekend to discuss your automotive needs. You might not get too much sense out of me at the show, so shoot back to the Dealership and have a yarn with Chris, arrange a test drive, talk finance or simply annoy him.
Happy Motoring,
Spratty
