SPRATTY SAYS 19-05-2007
Mother’s Day has come and gone and I hope all the Mums in the valley got to feel a little bit special last Sunday. Compared to the city, where a few sad looking flowers at servos mark the occasion, it’s nice to see that Mother’s day is more of an ‘event’ in the bush.
On the home front, recent rain has ground the gardening frenzy of recent times to a bit of a standstill. Although Mrs Spratty is sharpening her shears.. and her plans. The cockatiel still rules the roost at our place; can we send it off to boarding school? Hopefully the novelty will wear off or maybe the Big One will take her back.
Also on the homefront, we had CC girls’s parent teacher meeting in the last few days. Determined to unravel some of the academic mystery teenagers carefully weave for the benefit of their parents and carefully avoiding the teachers we knew would give her a wrap, we zeroed in on maths, her least favourite, and armed with little actual evidence she is actually enrolled in any such course (in fact if not for the odd appearance in uniform you wouldn’t know school was on the agenda), hoping to get the real deal. The result was totally unexpected, firstly CC girl is actually going OK, but the same bloke taught me in Sydney in the early 70’s. I told him he must be a thousand years old, an instant reminder of how challenging I found maths and school in general.
On feeling your age, the Big One wanted a hand with her business studies. The commercial case studies she was looking at were ‘ancient’ and difficult to imagine. Well, I found myself engrossed in events from the 70’s and 80’s that were big news, so much so, that her textbook is booked for my bedside collection. Maybe I need to get out more?
From the Redman camp, the boys have been preparing for today’s challenging road trip to Wollongbar. Strong at home in all grades the club’s depth will be sorely tested. While the senior numbers have been good, U 19’s have looked especially good at training. It will be a great day out, try and get there to support the players.
On the workfront, Chris McCaughy’s Sunday ‘consultations’ have proved a huge hit and by popular demand he will be on deck tomorrow. He did ask me to advise that while he is happy to assist in most aspects of human endeavour, his marital advice is very qualified!
Hyundai are having a sale this weekend, with some very handy deals on offer, including $1000 worth of shopping vouchers. Adding even more value to their rapidly improving range of products. Rob Connell is finding bonuses on bonuses and doing some astounding deals on runout Couriers and Focuses. Be quick though as the good ones go first.
Happy Motoring,
Spratty
