SPRATTY SAYS 06-05-2006

Cannot believe its May already, I must say I’m glad to see the back of April. For our business it’s always the hardest month of the year because of all the holidays, there were only 17 working days in April, the toughest one we’ve had for a while. The good news is that the ‘book end’ months of March and May have kind calenders, so I guess it all evens itself out in the end.

Missed the Mighty River Redman’s latest scalp Tweed Heads at Rugby Park last Saturday, but my spies tell me it was a pretty special performance as the 63 to nil score line would indicate. The better news was the improved performances of the lower grades, as the Redmen seem to be clicking nicely into gear.

On the home front Mrs Spratty finally has all her stuff in Grafton with the last load arriving on Tuesday courtesy of a very efficient and very patient Mick Wade of Grafton Removals. Maybe I’ve had too much time on my hands driving up and down the coast, but I was wondering ..I’ve been bringing a carload of stuff up every fortnight for the past year almost, there was still 40 odd cubic metres on the final truck, which Mick tells me is an average family sized house, we live in an average house. So where does all the stuff go? And just quietly where the hell did it come from!

On the work front, we decided to apply Rob Connell’s younger and more agile mind to the new products emerging from Hyundai, so next week our new car engine room will be in Auckland getting the latest on the best and brightest from Hyundai. From what I have seen I must say it all looks pretty exciting. Don’t forget for every new model there has to be a runout, which is often the most exciting part as the deals can often be sensational.

Our ‘Exports ‘ continue to grow with customers finding their car in Grafton from Canberra, Cronulla, Lismore (does that count?), two finding their way to the Central Coast and a brickie in Wagga has ordered a ‘special’ Transit utility which has to be made up for delivery in the next week or so.

What I have been noticing, more people are happy to come to Grafton to collect the car often building it into a break or a weekend away. Tom Freebody is working on a deal for a family in Darwin, it is still early days but if that happens we will all be pretty excited.

The only downside to this growing part of our business is that while we are selling more cars, a lot of ‘plum’ cars are leaving town. If you see something you like let us know so you don’t miss out…. we hate saying no to fellow Valley dwellers.

Happy motoring,

Spratty
