SPRATTY SAYS 11-11-2006
Just when you thought it was safe and the Purple Haze of Jacaranda starts to clear, in comes the Melbourne Cup for another dose of plenty of things good. As a footnote to Jacaranda day itself, congratulations must go to all the ‘performers’ for making it a truly unique experience for everybody. Although, Grafton will be happy to know, I will definitely be sticking to my day job.
On the home front all this rain has got the grass fired up and I think we will be on the mower ‘weekly’ for a while. As I sit on the mower musing to myself, its funny seeing and hearing about the drought, yet the heavens seem to be constantly opening up here in the valley, you do worry that they just leave our water alone; I certainly don’t want to go to water restrictions unnecessarily.
The big news at home is the completion of Mrs Spratty’s project. She’s knocked the place into order and seems pretty happy with the result. One concern I have is the steady stream of my stuff headed out to the new shed. So far there has been no mention of a bed for me out there, so far so good. By proving totally useless and staying out of the way I managed to avoid getting tangled up in the project too much, bit like how I got through rearing the kids really, the challenge now is to stay under the radar as she starts planning her next assault on the Ponderosa. There is far too much golf and fishing to be done.
On the workfront, this week we bade farewell to Ed, reigning Pie eating champ, contender for the Valley’s biggest loser, special mascot to the Grafton Redmen, and Grafton’s very own cultural attaché. Sadly as too often happens in the Valley, believe it or not Ed is pretty highly qualified as is his intended, yes he has a lady and very nice young lass too, and who both need to be in a City to fire up their respective careers, preferably the same one. I will miss Ed, not only for the contribution to Mighty River but he is also family and has been terrific, we wish him and Lauren our very best wishes .Just quietly ,the new accountant looks like solving Redman front row problems I will keep you posted on his massive seachange from Melbourne.
Also at Fitzroy Street some great clearance specials on new cars. A brand new Falcon for around $25,000 sounds like pretty good buying to me. Also for those with a slightly larger load..a brand new V8 Explorer 7seater for only $39,990 drive away. Don’t worry there is also plenty on offer for those looking for more economical modes of transport.
Finally with Christmas around the corner it is probably time to visit the Mighty River Gift shop. With a full catalogue of Canterbury Wallaby gear available in time for Christmas, as well as a plethora of Ford toys and clothing the choices are endless..even for the difficult to buy for!
Happy motoring,
Spratty
