SPRATTY SAYS 17th November 2007

The webbed feet have been given a chance to dry out this week after a protracted wet spell that was starting to get a little much. A chance also to recover the initiative in the backyard, you can almost watch the grass growing at the moment. How green is my valley?

On the home front, the Big One's cockatiel has appeared for a little holiday, after a tough academic year minding a student or becoming a Doctor Cockatiel or both. Mrs Spratty is enjoying the company of her adopted (grand) daughter, probably because she is neater, more manageable and certainly a lot more knowledgeable than the rest of the household. The only concern will be the tears at bedtime when its time to go home.

A lucky few of us were reminded of our privileged provincial lifestyle last Sunday at the third Sam Dougherty Memorial Golf day. More than just a game of golf, it's a combo of an attack on tragedy, community fund raising and very social day out. I never knew Sam but he must have been a pretty special bloke, and it's really no surprise as last Sunday proved, those in his corner have plenty going for them ..in the ways that matter.

I see the Council participated recently in a local Government Conference to examine the serious problem of sand erosion of ocean front homes. The result of that gathering was that our entry level and locally focussed mandarins determined that the solution was limited to moving houses, moving sand and/or stop building on sand dunes. A no doubt weighty tome to this effect was passed upwards to a more generically focussed group of mandarins for further debate, discussion and consideration, no doubt at a top quality
venue near you. We are very relieved to learn that it wasn't a talk fest.

On the workfront we seem to have recovered from a recent spate of recreation and procreation, now with all shore leave cancelled it's full steam ahead!

Also on the workfront, we have assembled a reasonable selection of around 60 new and used caravans and campervans. If you haven't checked out the latest and greatest in caravans they are definitely worth a look. To complement heightened levels of stock we have built on our mainly diesel range of commercials and 4wds to include plenty of great value towing options. Paul Winmill uses a Hyundai Terracan turbo diesel for the large amount of towing he does and has been very impressed by its performance and economy. As well as being open 7 days a week, it all adds up to make Mighty River at Spring St South Grafton the automotive HQ of the Clarence.

Finally with Summer holidays around the corner book into Mighty River at Victoria Street for a well priced 33 point safety check and coolant flush for $69.

Happy motoring.
