SPRATTY SAYS 25-11-2006
Would I be right in saying that it was also warmer down South this time last year? Being a desperate/amateur fisherman as well as a trainee Graftonian, I have taken a greater interest on the weather reports. In particular rainfall relative to catchments which never seems to happen, in fact I am starting to wonder if the whole water shortage thing is not a political stunt which will be corrected by a change in voting patterns..sorry I digress. I find it odd to see temperatures in Sydney consistently higher than those in the Clarence..700 kilometres closer to the equator. warmer even than Brisbane further north again. What about the Icebergs off New Zealand? Thankfully we are back to beating the Poms at sport, proving that at least the most important things in life never change..
Huge congratulations to the organisers of the Sam Dougherty Golf Day last Sunday. Unfortunately I never met Sam Dougherty, but I understand he was a pretty special guy, whose memory deserves to be perpetuated in a unique manner. I've been to plenty of Corporate days at flash courses that would have cost a bomb, but you cannot beat a down to earth bunch of blokes determined to have a little competitive fun for a good cause, in a well organised environment at a terrific venue. Ive already marked the calendar with this event for next year. The bonus was for me at the end of the day, I knocked on the door of the correct home and Mrs Spratty tut tutted surprisingly moderately and appeared to understand me. All's well that ends well.
On the workfront, a sales tip for those contemplating the car hunting trip across the border. You should be aware that quite different consumer laws exist in Queensland, one very different one if the lack of a requirement on the part of car dealers to display pricing on used cars. Why is that ? The reason is that the price you are quoted on a used car will usually depend on the Car salesman’s qualification of you as a buyer, whether you have a trade-in or not, as well as any other subjective measure they choose to introduce. As a rule you will be quoted a much higher price if you have a trade in order that the ‘trade-in’ price can be inflated, this practice was outlawed in NSW some years ago. Used car warranty regulations are much softer in Queensland, also bear in mind the work would need to be done by the selling dealer, a tough assignment if they are 3 hours away. Then there is the hassle of registration and so on, honestly why bother?
Supporting local business not only creates jobs, but supports the local economy in a wide variety of ways. In fact there is probably no sport or field of human activity that is not supported by one of the Motor Dealers in the Valley, it also gives the local dealers the resource to support you if you have a problem. At Mighty River we offer a Commitment Pack to our customers which includes a suite of supportive measures, ensuring peace of mind motoring.
Just remember the bottom line is, New or Used, we all buy them from the same shop.
Happy motoring,
Spratty
