SPRATTY SAYS 13th October 2007Spring is certainly in the air along with Summer, wild storms, a little hail, as well as a few other things. You certainly couldn’t describe the weather as boring. School holidays have brought with it the usual dosages of youthful indolence and parental angst respectively. Around Grafton this week the head count is well up and the average age of the punters is well down on normal. It’s been good to see plenty of visitors around town, but not surprising with plenty of activities on around town, plenty to check out in the region and plenty more on the way. I reckon we had better get used to being a tourist attraction as there is no doubt the Clarence is in the process of being ‘discovered’. On the home front I’m pretty sure the old man roo that’s been hanging around has been drinking my beer. He’s been bailing my womenfolk up in the driveway, lounging around like he owns the place and showing few signs of moving on. After careful strategic consideration, clearly the solution is to improve beer concealment process. As the wannabe Wallabies and the choking Kiwis slink home from early World Cup exits the search for sport got a bit desperate this week. One day cricket in India was a chance but way past my bedtime. Sporting salvation came by of the Bathurst 1000 car race. A 1 2 3 Ford podium finish sent me to the fridge, bursting with pride. What more could a Ford dealer ask for? Even my mother in law was excited although I’m pretty sure she was a little giddy from the circular nature of the event. We had a few touching moments with a local family heading overseas for a three week holiday. I felt obliged to promise the teenage daughter, one of CC girl’s buddies, I would see to it there would be no change in the teenage relationship landscape in her absence. The atmosphere was nonetheless charged and emotional, I guess we will just have to work our way through the issues. On the workfront we have been unseasonably busy on the sales front. New models from Ford and Hyundai and some great offers and incentives via Rob ‘you big bonus’ Connell. The 7 day trading seems to be a huge hit with people able to shop for Caravans and a wider variety of cars at their leisure. Although I still feel awkward discussing sleeping arrangements with customers, Adam and Paul are the undoubted experts in that field. One thing I have noticed is a trend to the North in sales. In the past we have found it hard getting cars into Queensland, but of late the worm has turned with plenty heading North, Brisbane in particular a popular destination for our products at the moment. Finally the recent bout of unsettled weather and a workshop regularly filling with broken unloved cars makes it a good time to remember to maintain your investment in your car. Call into Victoria Street and ask about fixed price scheduled serviceing - you might be pleasantly surprised. Happy Motoring and Caravanning, Spratty |
