SPRATTY SAYS 28-10-2006
Life is developing into a Purple Haze, with all things Jacaranda happening. Rehearsals are in full swing for the Mighty River Jacaranda performance as is the production of props and costumes. Sunday we again try our luck on the river in the Dragon Boat Races, which is an all day event and a half in itself, the Festival ramps up from there.
On Jacaranda royalty front crowning night is Saturday night, an event which seems to be the climax of the program… for now. Last Saturday night was a terrific night at the Jacaranda Ball with first rate entertainment, good tucker and great company. Tuesday night the Committee held a dinner at South services club. I must confess to getting a bit lost as to the ‘cause celebre’ of all the events, but it was nice to have dinner out with all my family and some really nice folks, knowing the evening would proceed like a Swiss watch. Honestly the Jacaranda committee should be running the country.
The Jacaranda princess program builds on the notions that girls like to dress up, go out, hang with they’re friends and basically just ‘wanna have fun’. To my knowledge there are no drop outs from the program and as well as literally having a ball the participants emerge form the process with far greater levels of self assurance, awareness and a much wider circle of friends, all this and it makes a profit. Well done to all concerned.
A word of thanks to the very competent guys at Disco Marine, who helped us out with the ss Linda Gaye. A small administrative issue (someone forgot to register her) saw her in drydock with the realisation that boats are a little different for rego purposes. All is well with the paperwork mountain moved appropriately, the Linda Gaye is once again available for very amateur use.
On the workfront after the traditional school holiday pause things are pretty busy. Plenty of cars are changing hands, with the stock also changing. Keep an eye on the Used car department as the good cars don’t last. What is pleasing is plenty of good stuff is staying local, it feels good being able to tell a bargain hunter down south the car they are looking at is already sold.
With the price of fuel easing there is a lot more vehicle movements on our roads. The extra mileage causes more wear and tear to batteries, brakes, windscreens and tyres in particular. Swing by our Service department ion Fitzroy street for a check up if you havnt had your car looked at lately.
Happy motoring,
Spratty
